Shock absorbers upgrade your air spring suspension. Load-adaptive shocks "T" into the air line for your air bags, automatically adjusting for a softer ride when your truck is unloaded and firmer support and better handling when loaded. They respond automatically to your air bag pressure, offering less damping when your air bags are less inflated and your vehicle is unloaded, thus ensuring a smoother, more comfortable ride. When the air bag pressure increases to support a load, the shocks also provide more damping to increase body and roll control, making driving much easier. Because these shock absorbers are activated by air bag pressure, there's no need to crawl under the truck to adjust them for different loads. More than seventy years ago, Firestone started developing a full air-based suspension for passenger cars. Firestone Airide air springs were installed on the new line of general Motors buses in the late 50's. Later that decade, air springs began to gain popularity in luxury vehicles. Over the next 20 years, technology improvements in other suspension components, such as compressors and valves, helped support the growth of air suspension. In the 1970's, Ford Motor Company incorporated air suspension in the Lincoln Town Car and Continental.
